Is kumon bad for mental health?

My parents are making me do Kumon after school, and I feel so much pressure. It's really stressing me out and I sometimes feel very anxious. Can Kumon be bad for mental health, especially for kids?

As a nurse, I have seen many kids getting extremely stressed due to extra academic pressure. Kumon can be very repetitive and demanding, which sometimes causes anxiety in young children. If your child is crying or refusing to do the worksheets, it is best to take a break.

Academic stress can actually affect physical health too, even triggering early metabolic changes in kids. If Kumon is causing constant stress or changing their eating and sleeping habits, it is not worth it. Mental peace and a balanced lifestyle are far more important than solving sheets fast.

I completely understand how heartbreaking it is to watch your child cry over math worksheets every single evening. I went through this with my daughter and felt so guilty for pushing her so hard. It is absolutely okay to prioritize your child's emotional well-being over competitive speed.

When my son started showing signs of severe anxiety and bedwetting, we immediately consulted a child psychologist at Max Hospital. She clearly advised us to stop any extra after-school academic programs that put pressure on him. If your child is struggling, please consult a professional counselor instead of ignoring it.

Honestly, paying thousands of rupees every month for Kumon just to buy extra stress for your child is not a practical plan. You can easily download free math sheets online and let them practice at their own pace without any timed pressure. Save that money for their future higher education instead.

At the end of the day, kids need physical play and outdoor activities to develop a healthy brain. If they are spending all their free time after school doing repetitive worksheets, they miss out on sports. Try to balance their study time with some outdoor running or swimming.

I totally get it, the pressure on kids these days is just too much to handle. Every child has a different learning pace, and constant timed tests can easily damage their self-esteem. Please listen to your child and don't feel pressured by what other parents are doing.
