Is kidney failure a disability?

My uncle has been dealing with kidney failure for a while now, and it's affected his ability to work. I wanted to understand if this condition is considered a disability under government or medical guidelines. Does it qualify for any support?

When my uncle was on regular dialysis, he applied for a disability certificate at the local government hospital. In his experience, the medical board did approve it due to the severe impact on his daily life. That's all I know about the process.

Living with kidney failure is a huge physical challenge, and keeping up with a strict low-potassium, low-sodium diet takes a lot of effort. Legally, the government does recognize it under certain disability benefits to help patients cope.

I used to panic thinking this label meant life was over, but actually, getting the disability benefits helps a lot with concession in travel and tax. It is just a legal way to make life a bit easier for patients, so don't feel bad about it.

Actually, yes, yaar. Since patients on dialysis can't work regular hours and suffer from extreme fatigue, they are eligible for disability benefits in India. You should definitely check the official government portals for the exact forms.

Even if it is classified as a disability, many patients on dialysis continue to stay active. Doing very light walking, if the doctor permits, can help maintain some physical strength and improve your mood during treatment.

It definitely limits what you can do and eat, which is a huge challenge in itself! But having that legal status can at least help ease some of the financial burden of treatment, so do look into getting the certificate.

Managing high blood pressure is so important to prevent reaching this stage. If someone does reach kidney failure, the physical toll is very high, which is why it qualifies as a disability. Please keep checking your health parameters regularly.
