Is kidney disease genetic?

My father and his brother both have kidney issues, and I'm starting to worry if I might also be at risk. I want to be proactive about my health. Is kidney disease genetic, and should I get tested?

Bhai, kuch bimariyan khandan mein chalti hain jaise PKD, par sabhi kidney ki pareshani aisi nahi hoti. Parivar mein kisi ko hai toh aap bhi thoda dhyan rakhein aur acche doctor se pooch lein.

Some specific conditions like Polycystic Kidney Disease are genetic, but most cases happen due to lifestyle. I go to a top hospital in Mumbai for my father's treatment, and they always suggest asking a specialist instead of guessing.

I have thyroid issues which also run in my family, so I know how worrying genetic things can be. If you have a family history of kidney problems, just get your creatinine and urine protein checked once a year to be safe.

My father has high BP which caused his kidney issues, so for me, the real genetic risk is inheriting his love for salty street food! Jokes apart, keeping a check on your diet is the best way to prevent it.

Yes, some types of kidney disease are genetic, but most are caused by diabetes or high blood pressure.

Look, don't assume anything. If you are worried because your parents had it, just get an ultrasound and a blood test done. That's the only way to get a clear answer.
