Is it ok to sleep with tv on?

I find it hard to fall asleep in a completely silent room, so I always have the TV on low volume in the background. My husband says it disturbs my sleep quality. Is it really okay to sleep with the TV on?

Many people do it, but it's generally not recommended. The blue light from screens can disrupt your melatonin production, making it harder to get quality sleep. If you need background noise, try a white noise app or a smart speaker with ambient sounds instead of the TV.

Sweetie, while it feels comforting to some, sleeping with the TV on isn't the best for deep, restful sleep. The light and changing sounds can keep your brain subtly stimulated, preventing you from reaching those important deep sleep stages. Try a guided meditation or a calming podcast without the screen instead.

Honestly, I used to do this in my younger days, thinking the background noise helped. But then I'd wake up tired, even after 7-8 hours. Switched to a dark, quiet room and saw a huge difference. So, personally, I'd say no.

For good sleep, a dark and quiet environment is usually advised. The light from the TV can interfere with your sleep cycle. While it may not be an immediate danger, long-term effects on sleep quality can impact overall health. If you rely on it, maybe consult a sleep specialist.

I sometimes fall asleep with it on accidentally. Is it just about the light, or does the sound also make a difference? What if I set a timer for it to switch off after an hour?

From a medical perspective, exposure to light, especially blue light from screens, suppresses melatonin, the sleep hormone. This can lead to fragmented sleep and difficulty falling asleep. I'd definitely recommend asking your GP or a sleep expert at a good hospital like Lilavati about this if it's a regular habit.

If I could sleep with the TV on and still get deep sleep, I'd probably be a superhero. Unfortunately, my brain decides to process every sound and flicker. So, no, not okay if you actually want to wake up feeling refreshed. My eyes tell me off every morning.

Humare gaon mein toh log jaldi so jaate hain, subah jaldi uthte hain. TV chaloo rakh ke sone se neend kahan acchi aayegi? Aankhon ko bhi aaram milna chahiye na. Shaanti se sona chahiye, woh hi accha rehta hai, beta.

For peaceful sleep, it's best to have the room dark and quiet. Your mind can rest better that way.
