Is it ok to sleep sitting up?

Due to some back issues, I sometimes have to sleep sitting up in an armchair or with a lot of pillows. My wife thinks it's not proper sleep. Is it actually okay to sleep sitting up like this, or is it detrimental to health?

Haan, bilkul theek hai agar aapko aaram milta hai! Mere ghar mein kuch log aise hi so jaate hain, khaaskar jab सर्दी जुकाम ho ya acidity. Bas gale mein ya kamar mein dard na ho, uska dhyan rakhna. Short periods ke liye toh okay hai.

While it might seem okay sometimes, especially if you have congestion or acid reflux, sleeping sitting up can put strain on your neck and back over time. If this is a regular thing for you, or you wake up with pain, it's worth mentioning to your doctor. Better to be safe.

Bhai, agar tumhe aaram milta hai aur neend achhi aati hai toh bilkul theek hai. Kuch log aise hi so jaate hain. Bas dhyan rakhna ki gale aur kamar mein dard na ho subah. Apni marzi se karo, jo theek lage.

With PCOS, I've learned that overall comfort and minimizing stress on the body are key. Sleeping sitting up might be okay for a short nap or if you're sick, but for regular sleep, it can lead to back and neck issues. It's better to try to find a comfortable lying position if possible, maybe with an elevated headrest.

Ho na, kabhi kabhi train mein ya flight mein toh hum sabhi aise hi so jaate hain. But for regular sleep, it's not ideal, no? Neck aur back ko strain aa sakta hai. Agar koi medical reason hai, toh theek hai. Nahi toh, try to lie down comfortably for proper rest, hai na?

At a good hospital, they always advise discussing unusual sleep patterns. While sleeping sitting up can be necessary for certain conditions like severe reflux or respiratory issues, doing it regularly without a medical reason can cause musculoskeletal problems. So, it's crucial to consult your doctor for personalized advice.

Sometimes people sleep sitting up if they have breathing issues or acid reflux. If it's a temporary thing, it's fine. But if it's long-term, it can lead to neck and back problems, and then physiotherapy costs money! Better to find the root cause and sleep flat if possible.
