Is it ok for a newborn to sleep on side?

My newborn baby sometimes turns their head to the side when sleeping. My mother-in-law insists babies should always be on their back. Is it okay for a newborn to sleep on their side sometimes, or is it unsafe?

When my son was a newborn, the hospital and our pediatrician were very clear: always put babies to sleep on their back. They said it's the safest position. I never put him on his side, and he always slept on his back until he could roll over on his own. That was my experience.

Honestly, yaar, all the docs and even the baby books say 'back is best'. They actually advise against side sleeping for newborns because it's not as stable and they can roll onto their tummies, which is risky. So no, not really okay for newborns to sleep on their side intentionally.

Oh, newborn sleep positions are such a worry for new parents! I remember reading so much about this. While they might occasionally roll to their side, the general advice is always back to sleep to reduce SIDS risk. It's best not to intentionally place them on their side. Safety first for the little one.

No, it's not okay. The recommendation from all pediatric associations is to place newborns to sleep on their back to reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Side sleeping is not considered safe as they can easily roll onto their stomach, which poses a higher risk. Always 'back to sleep'.

For babies, safety is paramount. Doctors are very strict about sleep positions for newborns. They always say 'back to sleep'. Any other position increases risks. This is not like adult sleep where you can adjust. Always follow pediatrician's advice for newborns, no exceptions.

Oh, I'm expecting soon and this is really good to know. So, if a baby rolls to its side during sleep on its own after being put on its back, is that also dangerous? Or is it only if we place them on their side? I'm getting so confused with all the advice.

For newborns, the safest way is always on their back. My sister used to worry too much about the baby getting a flat head, but the doctors said back is best. If they roll on their own later, that's different. But you should always place them on their back to start. It's a simple rule for safety.
