Is it normal to have stomach pain after endoscopy?

I had an endoscopy yesterday, and today I'm feeling a bit of a sore throat and mild stomach discomfort. The doctor said it's common. Is it normal to have stomach pain after endoscopy, and how long does it usually take to feel completely fine?

I had a lot of gas pain after my endoscopy because of the air they pump in during the procedure. Since I manage my diabetes carefully, I couldn't just have sweet drinks to feel better. I stuck to plain warm water and thin buttermilk, which helped clear the gas without spiking my blood sugar levels.

They basically send a mini-camera crew down your throat into your stomach, so your tummy is bound to lodge a small protest! It is usually just trapped air from the scope. Give it a day, do some walking to release the gas, and you'll be back to planning your next big meal soon.

Please do not start taking random digestive churna or home remedies to cure stomach pain after an endoscopy. The lining of your stomach might be sensitive, especially if they took a biopsy. Call the clinic where you got it done and ask them if you need a specific antacid instead.

Please be very careful with this pain. While mild bloating is common, I developed severe pain due to a small tear in the esophagus wall after my procedure and had to be rushed back. If your pain is sharp, constant, or if you feel feverish or vomit, go to the hospital immediately.

At my age, my body complains even if I sleep in the wrong direction, so an endoscopy definitely caused some major stomach grumbling. It took me a solid two days to get rid of the heavy bloated feeling. Just take it easy, eat soft khichdi, and let your body complain in peace.

Since you already spent a good amount on the endoscopy, you don't want to run back for another expensive checkup immediately. Wait for 24 hours to see if it is just normal gas pain. If it doesn't go away, use the free follow-up consultation period that most clinics offer within a week.

I have had two endoscopies done over the last few years. The stomach pain is almost always due to the air they blow in to inflate the stomach for a clear view. Walking slowly around the house and drinking warm water helps immensely to release this trapped air.
