Please don't ignore breathing patterns in small babies and get it checked by their pediatrician once. Just like we need regular thyroid and blood tests to catch issues early, babies need timely checkups for small things like mouth breathing to make sure everything is absolutely fine.
Actually, my little one also does this sometimes and it makes me a bit nervous. I am very new to all this parenting stuff, so I always keep checking if her nose is clear. Does your baby have any cold or stuffy nose right now?
I had asked our pediatrician about this last month because my son was doing the same. Doc said that newborns have very weak nasal muscles and narrow airways, so they sometimes breathe through the mouth. However, he specifically told us to consult if there is noisy breathing, snoring, or any chest retractions.
Haan na, even my nephew used to do this and we all got so scared. But it was just a mild cold and dry air in the room. Just check if the room is a bit dry, otherwise everything is totally fine, don't worry.

Both my kids used to sleep like this when they were very small. Often their nasal passages are just tiny and they are getting adjusted to the environment outside. As long as the baby is feeding well and active during daytime, there is nothing to worry about.
