Is it normal for a fever to come and go?

My son has had a fever for a few days, but it goes up and down. One day it's there, then it's gone, then it comes back again. Is it normal for a fever to come and go like that?

It is quite common for fevers to fluctuate, especially when paracetamol wears off every 6 hours. But if this up-and-down continues for more than 3 days, it's a sign your body is fighting a stronger infection. Go see your doctor for a proper diagnosis.

Fever coming and going is typical in viral or malaria cases, but instead of buying random medicines, get a CBC and Widal test. It costs around 500-800 rupees and saves you from wrong treatment expenses later. Plan a proper doctor visit first.

Actually yaar, mere saath bhi aisa hua tha last monsoon. The fever would disappear in the morning and return at night with chills. It was dengue, so don't take it lightly and go get your blood test done immediately.

Man, my toddler's fever has been doing a peek-a-boo routine all week and I've slept for exactly 2 hours. Just when you think they are fine, the thermometer hits 102 again. Go to a doctor so both of us can get some sleep!

When my fever behaves like this, my appetite completely goes for a toss—one minute I want hot soup, and the next I can't stand food. But seriously, a bouncing fever needs medical attention, so get checked while sipping on some light khichdi.

I had a similar fever that kept coming back every evening last month. I didn't want to self-medicate, so I went straight to my physician, and it turned out to be a urinary tract infection. I'd suggest you also get diagnosed professionally.

I totally understand how scary it is when the fever drops and then shoots up again, it used to give me massive panic attacks. Please don't stress, but do book a doctor's appointment. Getting a professional opinion always calms the mind.

I always use warm sponge baths and ginger-tulsi kadha to keep the temperature down when my kids have a fever. But if the fever keeps bouncing back after a few days, home tips won't work anymore. Please show them to a doctor.

I was reading about this because my roommate had similar symptoms. Apparently, a fluctuating fever can happen with dengue, typhoid, or simple viral infections as the immune system fights back. It's definitely not something to ignore if it lasts.
