Is it illegal to sleep in your car in pa?

My cousin is moving to Pennsylvania and is looking for temporary accommodation. She asked if she could sleep in her car for a few nights while she finds an apartment. Is it illegal to sleep in your car in PA?

I was researching this for my upcoming road trip to Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania state law doesn't explicitly ban sleeping in your car, but PennDOT rest areas actually have a 2-hour parking limit. It's good to keep this in mind so you don't get a ticket.

I totally understand how stressful and anxiety-inducing it can be to worry about getting fined while trying to rest. Please take a deep breath. While PA has some strict time limits at rest stops, it is generally not illegal as long as you find a safe parking lot that allows overnight stays.

No statewide ban in PA, but watch out for PennDOT rest stops because they technically enforce a 2-hour limit to prevent overnight camping. Your best bet is to find a commercial truck stop like Love's or TA, where it is completely legal and safe.

Oh, is that true about the 2-hour limit at PA rest stops? That makes me so nervous! Where are we supposed to safely nap if we are too tired to drive? Has anyone else actually been ticketed for sleeping longer there?

Hey, I totally get why you're asking this. In PA, while official rest stops have that annoying 2-hour limit, many Walmart stores or private truck stops are super welcoming and safe for a quick overnight sleep. Just be practical, lock your doors, and you'll be fine!

Don't stress too much, buddy! It's not a crime in PA. Just avoid parking on busy city streets where local cops might bother you. Find a nice, busy truck stop, park safely, and get some good shut-eye!
