Is it illegal to sleep in your car in ny?

My sister is visiting New York and considering sleeping in her car for a night or two to save money. She's asking if that's allowed. Is it illegal to sleep in your car in NY? I'm trying to find information for her.

It is generally not illegal state-wide in NY, but local city codes like NYC have strict rules. Please be very careful because sleeping in a poorly ventilated car in extreme cold or heat can lead to serious health complications like carbon monoxide poisoning or heat stroke. If you feel unwell after doing this, please see a doctor immediately.

I completely understand how anxious you must be feeling about the safety and legality of this. It's totally natural to worry. In NY state, it is mostly legal at rest areas, so you can take a deep breath knowing you are not breaking state laws there.

I know how stressful and emotionally draining it is to be in a situation where you have to sleep in your car. In NY, it's generally legal on state highways at rest stops, but please be kind to yourself. It's a tough phase, but you will get through this, just stay safe.

New York state doesn't have a direct law against it, though local municipal bans exist. For those managing chronic conditions like diabetes, irregular sleep in a vehicle can seriously disrupt insulin levels and food schedules. If you must do this, ensure you have your healthy snacks and medications close by.

I am new to traveling around New York and was wondering about this too. Is it really safe to park at rest stops overnight? I am a bit shy to ask local authorities directly, so any advice on safe spots would be very helpful.

I can only share my personal experience from a road trip through upstate NY. I slept in my car at a state rest area for six hours and had absolutely no issues. Other travelers were doing the same, and it felt quite secure.

No state-wide ban in NY, but local town rules vary, especially near NYC. Sleeping in a car can make your body incredibly stiff. If you have to do it, make sure to go for a brisk 20-minute walk and do some light stretching the next morning to get your circulation going.

I agree with others here. NY state allows it at highway rest stops, which are generally safe and have facilities.

It is legal at the state level in NY, but local municipalities and NYC have their own strict rules against overnight parking.

Haha, no police will throw you in jail in NY just for napping in your car! Just don't park right in front of Times Square or a fire hydrant. Stick to highway rest stops unless you want a very expensive alarm clock knock from NYPD.

Bhaiya, New York state mein kanoon toh mana nahi karta par sheher ke andar police pareshan kar sakti hai. Kisi surakshit highway rest stop par hi gaadi khadi karein. Apna dhyan rakhiyega aur thand se bachein.

Haan bhai, NY state mein toh as such koi ban nahi hai, par NYC ke andar parking regulations bahut tight hain na. Toh sheher ke andar avoid hi karna. Highway ke rest areas par so jao, wahan koi kuch nahi bolega.
