Is it better to sleep on your side or back?

My back has been bothering me a lot lately, especially when I wake up. My wife sleeps on her side and says it helps. I usually sleep on my back, so I'm wondering if I should try changing my position.

If you have back pain, sleeping on your back with a pillow under your knees is a great option. For digestion, the side is much better. Just try both with simple pillows and see what makes you feel less stiff in the morning.

Don't stress too much about finding the 'perfect' posture. If you suffer from snoring, sleeping on your side is much safer and more comfortable. Take care of your neck, use a thin pillow, and just rest well tonight.

I think both have their own benefits depending on your body. Personally, I find side sleeping much more relaxing for my mind. Hope you find the position that gives you the best rest.

Does anyone else get lower back pain when they try to sleep flat on their back? I want to sleep on my back for my skin, but the ache makes me roll over immediately. Is this normal or am I doing it wrong?

I used to keep changing my sleeping position to hide a constant ache in my spine, ignoring it for months. It turned out to be a disc issue that needed proper medical attention. If you are changing positions because of pain, please get a checkup done before it gets worse.

Back sleeping is awesome for preventing wrinkles and keeping the spine neutral. But if you have congestion or a cold, side sleeping will help you breathe much easier. Keep a couple of pillows handy to switch as needed.

According to my orthopedist, sleeping on your back distributes weight evenly and is best for spine alignment. However, if you suffer from sleep apnea or acid reflux, side sleeping is medically preferred. Choose based on your specific health needs.

Our traditional texts suggest sleeping on the left side is highly beneficial for body balance. If you feel stiffness, gently massage your soles with warm sesame oil before sleeping. It relaxes the nerves whether you sleep on your back or side.
