Is it bad to sleep with earbuds in?

I often doze off with my earbuds still in, listening to podcasts or music. My mom worries it might damage my hearing over time. Is it bad to sleep with earbuds in, or is it okay occasionally?

I used to ignore a slight dampness and itching in my ear from sleeping with earbuds, thinking it was normal. It turned into a severe fungal infection that took months and painful ear drops to cure. Please go get a checkup if you feel any discomfort, and stop wearing them to sleep.

I had severe irritation and went to Apollo Clinic, where the ENT doctor strictly forbade sleeping with earbuds. He explained how it stops the natural migration of wax. It is always wise to consult a doctor to see the current state of your ear canal.

I completely understand how lonely and quiet nights can feel, and listening to music is such a comfort. But my ears got so inflamed and painful from doing this. It was really hard to stop the habit, but using a bedside phone speaker on low volume helped me transition safely.

Medically speaking, sleeping with earbuds traps moisture and blocks the ear canal from ventilating. My doctor explained that this creates a perfect humid environment for Pseudomonas or fungal growth. It is much safer to use external speakers if you need background noise.

In my long life, I have seen that keeping things simple is always best for health. Shoving plastic into your ears for 8 hours is unnatural and bound to cause trouble sooner or later. Let your ears rest in natural silence; they will serve you much better in old age.

I have to be very precise about hygiene because diabetes makes infections harder to treat. Ear canal infections from trapped sweat can become quite problematic. I highly recommend keeping your ears clean and dry, especially during sleep.

Between my back pain and my wife's snoring, sleeping is a struggle! But keeping earbuds in all night just adds ear pain to the list. I woke up once with the earbud literally glued to my earwax. Trust me, it is not a pleasant experience!

Yes, it is bad because it compresses your ear canal and traps bacteria. It is much safer to sleep without them.

My son used to do this every night until he got a painful ear boil. We had to take him to the doctor to get it drained, which was very painful for him. I strictly tell him now to use a small pillow speaker instead of putting things inside his ears.

I love running with music, but at night, my body and ears need complete rest to recover. Keeping earbuds in blocks circulation and airflow. If you have trouble sleeping, try a brisk walk in the evening to tire yourself out naturally instead of relying on audio.
