Taking a cold shower when you have a fever can actually cause shivering, which raises your core body temperature even more. If you want to feel fresh, a lukewarm sponge bath is much safer. It helps bring down the temperature gently without shocking your system.
When you have a fever, your body is already using all its energy to fight the infection, so physical exertion should be zero. Avoid hot showers as they can make you feel dizzy. Rest completely and check with your doctor before you plan to resume any light routine.
Honestly, I took a freezing cold shower once when I had a high fever and it made me shiver like crazy and feel ten times worse. Now I just stick to resting in bed and doing a simple damp towel wipe-down until my temperature goes normal.
Whenever I get a fever, my mom strictly forbids me from washing my hair or taking long baths, she says it makes the cold worse. I usually just do a quick warm water body wash so I don't feel sticky, and then straight back to bed.
Please be very careful with high fevers. I once fainted in the bathroom while trying to take a shower during a bad viral fever, which was very dangerous. If your fever is above 102 or if you feel lightheaded, don't risk a shower and consult your doctor immediately.
