Is it bad to leave computer on sleep overnight?

I usually leave my work laptop on sleep mode overnight instead of shutting it down completely. My colleague said it's bad for the battery life and overall performance. Is that really true?

Just like our mind and body need complete rest at night to recharge, our electronic devices also benefit from a proper shutdown. Keeping it on sleep mode still keeps a small current running. Turning it off completely brings a sense of closure to your daily work.

It is not really bad, modern computers are designed to handle sleep mode very well. But shutting it down once in a while helps it run smoother.

People on internet forums will tell you your computer will explode, but that is just nonsense. Modern OS handles power states perfectly. Just read the official manufacturer guidelines for your laptop model instead of worrying about random rumors.

I used to get so anxious thinking my laptop would overheat and catch fire if I left it on sleep overnight. But honestly, it is designed for this and nothing bad happens. Just make sure it is on a hard surface and not on your bed where heat can build up.

Just like taking a recovery day from the gym, your tech also needs a fresh start. Leaving it on sleep is fine for convenience, but a proper shutdown clears out temporary files and keeps performance optimal. Try to turn it off when you crash.

I literally never shut down my MacBook, I just close the lid and let it sleep. It hasn't caused any issues so far! But yeah, if you want your battery to last longer over the years, a weekly restart is a good habit.
