Is ischemia a heart attack?

My uncle had some chest pain and the doctor mentioned ischemia. Is ischemia the same thing as a heart attack, or is it something different but related?

Ischemia basically means reduced blood flow, which is a big warning sign. I have high blood pressure, and my doctor warned me that ignoring this can eventually lead to a proper heart attack. Please take this seriously, monitor your lifestyle, and go for regular cardiac checkups.

My uncle had cardiac ischemia and the doctor explained it is like a stage before a heart attack where the blood flow is restricted but the muscle isn't fully damaged yet. If you or someone else is having chest pain right now, don't wait on the internet, just go to the hospital emergency immediately.

From what I have been reading, ischemia is the lack of oxygen supply to the heart tissue, whereas a myocardial infarction (heart attack) is the actual death of the muscle because of prolonged block. So they are related, but ischemia is like the warning phase. Still sounds very scary though.

No, they are not exactly the same thing, but ischemia is a serious condition that can lead to a heart attack if left untreated. If you are experiencing any chest discomfort, tightness, or breathlessness, please do not search online. Call an ambulance or visit a cardiologist immediately.

I got so nervous when I saw this term on my dad's medical report. I keep worrying if he is at risk of a sudden heart attack right now. Has anyone else managed this with medication, or is surgery always required? It is keeping me awake at night.

Ischemia is reduced blood supply to an organ, usually the heart, due to blocked arteries. It is a precursor to a heart attack, not the attack itself, but it requires immediate medical intervention. A cardiologist's advice is absolutely best here; they will suggest whether you need medication, an angiogram, or lifestyle changes.
