Is insulin resistance and diabetes the same?

My doctor said I have insulin resistance, and my father has diabetes. I'm a bit confused. Is insulin resistance the same thing as diabetes, or is it like a pre-stage?

I recently got my fasting insulin checked and it was high, but my sugar is normal. Did anyone else get confused by this? It is so stressful to understand the difference.

Nahi, dono bilkul alag hain. Insulin resistance matlab sharir ko pachan mein thodi dikkat ho rahi hai, jo aage chalkar sugar ban sakti hai. Abhi se dhyan rakho toh sab theek ho jayega.

They are different stages. At my hospital, the doctor explained that my body produces insulin but cells ignore it. You should ask your doctor for an HOMA-IR test to know for sure.

No, they are not the same. Insulin resistance is the warning stage before type 2 diabetes. I reversed my insulin resistance last year by doing strength training and cutting carbs.

Insulin resistance is like a precursor. If you don't control your diet and carbs now, it will definitely turn into full diabetes. Focus on green veggies and cut out refined flour completely.

Think of insulin resistance as a yellow light and diabetes as the red light. You still have time to take control. Start doing 30-minute walks daily and cut out processed sugars.

Don't stress too much! Insulin resistance is just your body saying 'hey, slow down on the sweets.' It is not diabetes yet, so you can easily manage it with small lifestyle changes.

Welcome to the group. No, they are not the same, but they are closely linked. Managing your weight and keeping a tab on your blood glucose levels through regular checkups is the right way forward.

Insulin resistance means your cells do not respond effectively to insulin, leading to compensatory hyperinsulinemia. It is a precursor to type 2 diabetes. A clinical consult is essential to prevent progression.

I panicked like crazy when I first heard these terms! But my doctor reassured me that insulin resistance is completely reversible. It is definitely not permanent diabetes.
