Is hydronephrosis a kidney disease?

My chacha ji recently got diagnosed with hydronephrosis and everyone in the family is very worried. Is this condition considered a kidney disease or something else? We are a bit confused after talking to a local doctor.

Haan na, it is actually a condition where the kidney gets swollen because urine is not draining out properly. It is not exactly a disease itself but a sign of some blockage. Best is to get a sonography done and show a doc soon, don't worry too much.

My uncle had this and the doctor put him on some salt restrictions for a bit, which honestly made him miss his oily samosas so much. It's basically water accumulation in the kidney due to some block. Better to get it checked by a urologist so you can eat and live peacefully without any stress!

My grandmother used to suggest drinking barley water for any kidney discomfort, but for hydronephrosis, you must consult a specialist first. It is basically the swelling of kidneys due to fluid backup. Please visit a doctor and take their advice seriously rather than self-treating.

I had mild bilateral hydronephrosis last year because of a small kidney stone blocking the tract. Once the stone was cleared, the swelling went down on its own. Please drink plenty of water and don't delay your doctor visit, they will probably suggest an ultrasound to find the root cause.

Yes, I agree with others that it is kidney swelling usually caused by fluid buildup. Getting a proper medical opinion and scan is very important to find out why it is happening.
