Is hepatitis a bloodborne?

My sister just got diagnosed with Hepatitis A and we're trying to figure out how she got it. Can it be transmitted through blood? I'm worried about others in the family.

Honestly, I am too tired to even think straight, but I know for a fact Hepatitis A is not bloodborne. It is all about contaminated food and water, basically from not washing hands properly. So you can sleep easy on that one.

Hepatitis A is not bloodborne, it spreads through contaminated food and water. If you need to confirm, a basic antibody test is quite cheap, around 700 rupees at local labs, so you can plan your budget accordingly and get tested.

My hepatologist clarified that while Hepatitis B and C are bloodborne pathogens, Hepatitis A is transmitted via the fecal-oral route. This means it is typically acquired through contaminated water or food, not blood-to-blood contact.

Wait, really? I was so worried that I could get it from a small cut or a needle prick at the salon. Has anyone else felt this same anxiety about blood infections before finding out it is just foodborne?

I ignored my stomach symptoms once thinking it was just acidity, but it turned out to be viral hepatitis. Don't play guessing games with whether it is bloodborne or foodborne; go get yourself tested and checked by a physician immediately.

When we consulted the gastroenterologist at Manipal Hospital, he clearly explained that Hepatitis A is fecal-oral, not bloodborne. However, you should still consult your own doctor to clear up any doubts about transmission.
