Is heat or ice good for nerve pain?

I have this shooting pain down my leg, my physio said it's probably nerve pain. She suggested trying both heat and ice, but I wanted to know if one is generally more effective than the other for this kind of pain. What works better for nerve pain, actually?

According to the pain-tracking logs on my health app, gentle heat therapy correlates with much better sleep quality on days when I have nerve flares. Ice can sometimes trigger sensory sensitivity in nerves. Try a warm compress on a low setting for 10-15 minutes max.

Nerve pain feels like your body has its own internal electric shock system going off! Personally, ice makes me feel like frozen chicken, so I stick to a cozy warm water bag. But seriously, go light on whatever you choose so you don't shock your nerves more.

Hey, don't panic. Nerve pain can feel very weird, but it is manageable. Usually, dry heat from a heating pad helps soothe the tingling and improves blood circulation. Just make sure the temperature is warm, not burning hot, to protect your skin.

I suffer from thyroid-related neuropathy and regular medical follow-up is a must. Mild warmth helps with my leg numbness, but I never skip my routine blood checkups and nerve conduction tests. Please consult your physician to find the underlying cause.

Living with constant nerve shooting pain is so draining and nobody else truly understands the toll it takes on your mind. Warm water baths have been my only escape to calm down my nervous system on really bad days. Sending you a lot of strength.

I know exactly how scary nerve pain feels, it makes you think something is terribly wrong with your body. Please take a deep breath. Try a gentle warm compress first as it is much more soothing than harsh ice, and see how your body responds.

I just recovered from severe sciatic nerve pain last month. My physiotherapist strictly told me to avoid cold ice packs as they can aggravate the nerve. Mild heat therapy worked wonders to relax the tight piriformis muscle that was pressing on the nerve.
