Is heart failure a heart attack?

My dad has been diagnosed with heart failure, and I'm a bit confused. Is heart failure the same thing as a heart attack, or are they different conditions?

No, they are different medical conditions. A heart attack is a sudden blockage of blood supply to the heart, whereas heart failure means the heart muscle is too weak to pump blood efficiently over time. Consulting a cardiologist is best to understand this.

No, they are different. My uncle had a heart attack which later damaged his heart muscles, leading to chronic heart failure. Please get a proper doctor's consultation if you or a family member is showing symptoms like breathlessness.

They aren't the same. Heart attack is like a plumbing block, and heart failure is like a weak pump. Regular exercise and a clean diet keep the heart muscles strong and reduce the risk of both conditions.

I used to think they both meant the heart stopping completely and got so scared. Does anyone else get confused by these terms and worry about sudden heart issues?

From what I've researched, they are actually different. A heart attack is sudden, while heart failure is a gradual weakening of the pumping action. I'm not a medical professional, so please verify this with a doctor.
