Is hand cream good for eczema?

I've been dealing with eczema on my hands for a while now, and they often feel very dry and itchy. I try to moisturize regularly, but I'm unsure if my regular hand cream is actually helping. Is hand cream generally good for eczema, or do I need something specific?

Totally agree. Standard cosmetic hand creams have too many chemicals; only use fragrance-free medical barrier creams.

Normal scented hand creams from stores actually make my eczema worse because of the perfume. It's better to stick to plain Vaseline or a thick ceramide moisturizer recommended by a doc.

Eczema needs deep moisture. Instead of expensive fancy hand creams, just apply virgin coconut oil on damp skin right after your bath. It is cheap, natural, and works wonders for itching.

When my son had severe eczema flare-ups, our dermatologist at Medanta strictly told us not to use normal over-the-counter hand creams. They can irritate the skin barrier. Please ask your doctor for a prescription steroid or eczema-safe emollient.

I feel your pain, dry winter eczema on hands is the absolute worst. Try using a thick, urea-based cream at night and wear cotton gloves over it. It keeps the moisture locked in and heals the skin fast.
