Is gum disease contagious?

My husband has gum disease, and I'm worried about catching it. Is gum disease contagious, like a cold or flu?

Strictly speaking, the bacteria that cause it can spread through sharing spoons or saliva, but it is not like a common cold. Don't worry about expensive treatments just yet. A simple dental cleaning is very pocket-friendly and stops any risk of it worsening.

My son had really bad swollen gums last year, and I was so worried it would spread to his younger sister. The doctor explained that while bacteria can transfer, proper daily brushing and flossing keeps everyone safe. Just teach the kids not to share toothbrushes at all.

I totally get it, you must be worried about passing it on to your partner or family members. It is actually the bacteria that can spread, not the disease itself. As long as everyone maintains basic oral hygiene, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

While you should avoid sharing utensils to be safe, keeping your mouth clean with neem or warm salt water rinses is a great natural way to kill bacteria. However, if you notice deep redness or loose teeth, a proper dental checkup is necessary.

Nahi bhaiya, aise chhune se nahi failta hai yeh. Bas apna khana aur brush alag rakhein toh accha hai. Doctor babu ko ek baar dikha lijiye, woh badhiya sa saaf kar denge aur sab thik ho jayega.
