Is granola ok for kidney stones?

My husband recently had kidney stones, and we're trying to adjust his diet. He likes granola for breakfast, but I'm not sure if it's safe. Is granola okay for kidney stones, or should he avoid it?

Granola contains many nuts and oats which can be high in oxalates. In my experience, keeping our diet simple and drinking enough water is key to preventing stones. Gentle yoga twists also help in keeping the abdominal organs healthy.

My teenage son had a painful kidney stone last year, and the doctor told us to limit high-oxalate foods. Since granola often has almonds, spinach flakes, or cocoa, we completely stopped giving it to him. We focus on keeping him super hydrated instead.

Please be very careful with granola if you are prone to calcium oxalate stones. I ignored my diet, ate a lot of nut-heavy granola, and ended up needing surgery for a blocked kidney stone. You must consult your urologist about your specific stone type first.

Hey man, don't stress too much, but maybe skip the granola for now. It usually has nuts and oats which are packed with oxalates, and that's not great for stones. Just drink lots of water and check in with your doctor.

Don't rely on random internet advice about diet for kidney stones because the type of stone you have matters. Some are oxalate, some are uric acid. Take your lab reports to a qualified urologist or dietitian to get a proper diet chart.

I was recently diagnosed with a small kidney stone and I am quite confused about what to eat. I love granola for breakfast, so is it really unsafe because of the oats and nuts? Should I stop eating it completely?

My urologist explained that since most kidney stones are calcium oxalate, eating high-oxalate ingredients like the nuts and wheat bran in granola can increase the risk. He advised that if I do eat oats or nuts, I should consume them with calcium-rich food to bind the oxalates in the gut.

Man, I haven't slept properly in days because of kidney pain, and now I find out my morning granola might be the culprit due to oxalates. Save yourself the sleepless nights and ask your doctor before eating this stuff.
