Is gout worse than arthritis?

My colleague has gout and says it's much worse than arthritis. My uncle has severe arthritis, so I find it hard to believe. Is gout worse than arthritis, or is it just different?

Gout actually is a type of arthritis itself, but the pain is often described as much more sudden and intense than regular osteoarthritis. While regular arthritis is a dull, constant ache, a gout flare-up can make even a bedsheet touching your toe feel like torture. If you are experiencing this, a doctor can prescribe rapid-acting anti-inflammatories.

Gout is technically a highly acute form of inflammatory arthritis. Whether it is 'worse' depends on the frequency of attacks and joint damage, but the acute pain of a gout flare is clinically known to be exceptionally severe. Seeking a specialist's diagnosis is the safest course of action.

Honestly, comparing them is like choosing between a slow-motion push and a sudden slap! Regular arthritis is the slow drag, but gout is a sudden, angry punch to your big toe. Don't worry, once you start the right meds, that 'punch' goes away pretty fast!

Both cause a lot of suffering and can stop you from going to work. Gout attacks come very suddenly, usually at night. A simple and low-cost solution is to get a uric acid blood test done at your local lab so your doctor can give you the exact pill needed.

Beta, gout can feel much more agonizing because of the sudden burning sensation in the joints. Drinking warm water and avoiding heavy lentils can give mild relief during such times. But please visit a hospital to get your joint fluids or blood tested properly.

Bro, my dad has both and he literally cries during a gout attack, whereas his regular knee arthritis is just something he complains about while walking. Gout pain seems on a whole different level of bad. Definitely get it checked.

I don't know if I can say one is worse, as everyone's pain threshold is different. Since I manage PCOS, I know how frustrating chronic inflammation can be. It is best not to compare and instead get a doctor's opinion to find out what is causing your specific joint pain.
