Is glycerine good for dandruff?

I've been having a lot of dandruff lately, and a friend suggested trying something with glycerine. Does glycerine actually help with dandruff? I'm looking for a home remedy or an easy solution.

Glycerine is a humectant that hydrates the scalp, which might help if your dandruff is caused by dry scalp. However, if it's fungal dandruff, glycerine won't cure it and might make it oily. It is best to consult a dermatologist for a proper diagnosis.

Unless you want your head to feel like a sticky sweet box, don't put pure glycerine directly! If you must use it, dilute it well, or you'll have dust sticking to your hair all day.

I can only speak from my experience, but glycerine made my scalp too greasy and actually worsened my dandruff. I found that a simple anti-dandruff shampoo containing ketoconazole worked much better for me.

My teenager had very dry scalp and dandruff. We tried applying a little glycerine diluted with water before hair wash, and it did reduce the dryness. But make sure to wash it off thoroughly so it doesn't attract dust.

I love trying DIY scalp remedies while waiting for my food deliveries! Glycerine mixed with a few drops of lemon juice worked nicely to soothe my dry, itchy winter scalp.
