Is fever good?
My grandson has a slight fever and my daughter is very stressed. My mother-in-law always said fever is actually a good sign because it means the body is fighting. Is fever good, or something to suppress immediately?

Fever is not 'good' in the sense of being pleasant, but it is a natural and often beneficial process of the body. It helps in activating the immune system and creating an environment where many pathogens struggle to survive. I believe in supporting the body's natural healing, so for low fevers, rest and light food are key. For higher fevers, one must always consult a medical professional.
Fever is a symptom, not a 'good' or 'bad' thing in itself. It means your body is fighting something. However, a very high fever or a fever that lasts a long time can be dangerous and needs medical attention. So, while it indicates your immune system is working, you should always get it checked, especially for children or the elderly, to ensure there isn't a serious underlying issue.
Our elders always said that a small fever means the body is doing its cleaning. It helps to burn out the infection. So, it's not 'bad' from that point of view. For a mild fever, a warm compress or some tulsi kadha at home can help. But remember, if the fever is very high or stays for long, it's wise to go to the doctor, don't just rely on home remedies then.
Technically, fever is your body's immune response to an infection, so in that regard, it's a 'good' sign that your body is fighting. My smart thermometer alerts me if it goes too high though, because while some fever is beneficial, excessive heat can be harmful. It's about knowing the threshold. Always cross-reference with medical advice, not just what your app says, especially if it's persistent.
Fever itself is a sign, not a good or bad thing. It tells you your body is fighting something, maybe an infection. But for someone with high BP like me, any additional stress on the body, like a high fever, can be concerning. It's important to keep track, manage it with doctor's advice, and ensure your other health parameters are stable. Regular checkups are always key, especially when something like fever comes up.
