Is fatty liver and hepatic steatosis the same?

My recent ultrasound report said I have 'hepatic steatosis', but my doctor also mentioned 'fatty liver'. Are these two terms just different names for the same condition, or is there a difference between fatty liver and hepatic steatosis?

Yes, from what our doctor explained for my son, fatty liver is the common term people use, and hepatic steatosis is the medical term for it. They both mean there's too much fat in the liver. It sounds scary but it's often manageable with lifestyle changes, especially in kids.

Haan, both terms refer to the same condition. 'Hepatic steatosis' is just the more technical name. Don't worry too much about the medical jargon; the main thing is understanding what it means for your liver. It's usually reversible if caught early and managed properly.

Yes, they are the same condition. It's important to know this because sometimes fatty liver can be linked to other metabolic issues like thyroid problems or insulin resistance. So if you're diagnosed, ask your doctor for comprehensive checks, not just liver-specific ones.

Haha, same thing, different fancy name! Like 'aloo tikki' and 'potato patties'. Basically, it means your liver is feeling a bit too plump from all the fat. Time to cut down on those yummy fried snacks and sugary drinks, I guess!

Yup, they're interchangeable. Hepatic steatosis is the clinical term. It basically points to fat accumulation. Good news is, regular exercise, especially cardio, and a cleaner diet can really help reverse it. Even a 30-minute walk daily can make a huge difference.

Hey! Yeah, it's actually the same thing. My aunt recently got diagnosed with fatty liver, and the doctor also used the term hepatic steatosis. It just means there's too much fat buildup. The main thing is to focus on managing it with diet and exercise.

Oh, this medical jargon always confuses me! But yes, I've researched this because I tend to overthink every symptom, and they are indeed the same. Just two different names for fat accumulation in the liver. It's good to be informed, but don't let it stress you out too much. Focus on what you can control.
