Is falling asleep after eating a sign of diabetes?

Lately, after I eat a meal, especially a heavy one, I feel incredibly sleepy and often doze off. My mother has type 2 diabetes, and I'm worried this might be an early sign for me too. Is falling asleep after eating a symptom of diabetes?

I face heavy fatigue after meals due to insulin resistance, which is closely linked to pre-diabetes. While it's very common to feel a bit sleepy after a heavy carb meal, constant extreme fatigue should be evaluated. Please consult a doctor to get your fasting insulin and sugar tested.

I used to crash completely after lunch every single day and got so worried about diabetes. In my case, it was just a lack of proper sleep and eating too many heavy carbs in the afternoon. Definitely get your blood sugar checked though, just to be sure and have peace of mind.

Honestly, if eating a plate of biryani and falling asleep instantly was a disease, the whole country would have it! It's usually just a food coma. But jokes apart, if you are constantly passing out after even small meals, a quick blood test won't hurt.

Look, guessing won't help you at all. Sleepiness can be normal digestion, or it can be a sign of insulin spike. Go to any lab tomorrow morning, give your blood sample for HbA1c, and show the report to a doctor. Simple.

Hey, don't stress too much about it! Feeling a little lazy after eating is super normal because our body spends energy digesting food. Just book a basic health checkup to be 100% sure, and try to cut down on heavy rice during lunch.

I was experiencing severe afternoon crashes and finally went to the doctor last month. Turned out my HbA1c was in the pre-diabetic range, and my body was struggling with sugar spikes. Changing my diet and starting medication has completely resolved the daytime sleepiness.
