Is excessive burping a sign of a heart attack?

My father has been burping a lot lately, more than usual, and he also complains of some chest discomfort. Someone told me excessive burping can be a sign of a heart attack. Is this true, or is it an old wives' tale?

Usually, it is just normal gas or acidity from a heavy meal! But if you feel any pressure in your chest or breathlessness along with it, please don't ignore it. Stay safe and happy health to you! 😊

Normally, excessive burping is a digestive issue, but sometimes atypical heart attack symptoms can mimic indigestion or gas pressure. If your wearable tracker shows an unusual spike in heart rate or if you feel dizzy, please go to the hospital immediately. Don't take chances.

According to my physician, while burping is typically related to GERD or swallowed air, diabetic patients and women can sometimes experience atypical heart attack symptoms like belching, nausea, or mild discomfort instead of classic chest pain. If there is any chest tightness, sweating, or pain radiating to the jaw/arm, seek emergency medical care.

Look, most of the time it is just bad acidity from eating oily food late at night. But if you are feeling even a little tightness in your chest or sweating, don't sit around waiting. Go straight to a clinic and get an ECG done to be safe.

I see this query often in the group. In 95% of cases, it is simple indigestion, but because heart symptoms can sometimes present as gas, we must be careful. If this burping is new, sudden, and accompanied by heavy sweating or chest pain, please visit a doctor right away.

An ECG at a local government hospital or small clinic costs very little, around 100 to 200 rupees, and gives complete peace of mind. If you are worried that your burping is something serious, don't hesitate. It is much cheaper to get tested early than to ignore a real medical emergency.

I used to get severe burping and chest tightness and panicked thinking it was a heart issue. It turned out to be severe H. pylori infection. The best tip is to notice if the burping comes with jaw pain or arm numbness; if yes, go to emergency. If it's just gas, lifestyle changes and a doctor's advice will fix it.
