Is eczema related to asthma?

I've had both asthma and eczema since I was a child, and sometimes it feels like they flare up together. My mother always said they were connected. Is eczema related to asthma, like one can trigger the other?

Yes, they are like those annoying cousins who always show up together at family functions! It is called the 'atopic march' where eczema, asthma, and allergies often go hand-in-hand. It's very common, so don't worry too much.

They are indeed related through a common genetic allergic link, but don't let that stress you out. Having eczema doesn't guarantee you will get asthma, or vice versa. Just mention your family history to your doctor and they will guide you safely.

Yes, they are closely related because both are linked to an overactive immune system response. If you have both, it is best to discuss a combined management plan with your doctor.

Yes, there is a strong medical link. They are part of the 'atopic triad' which includes eczema, asthma, and allergic rhinitis. Knowing this connection is useful because managing one condition properly often helps keep the others under control too. Check with your doctor.

I panicked completely when I first read about the link between my eczema and mild wheezing. But my doctor explained it is a very standard genetic connection and nothing to be terrified of. It is highly manageable with basic care, so stay calm.
