Is eczema on flexor or extensor surfaces?

My cousin has eczema, and her doctor was asking her if the rashes are on her elbows or the inside of her arms. I didn't quite understand why that matters. Is eczema on flexor or extensor surfaces primarily, or can it be anywhere?

In adults, eczema usually pops up on the flexor surfaces, like the inner elbows and behind the knees. It is super annoying during college exams when you are constantly sweating. Definitely get a doctor's advice on how to keep it calm.

Typically, atopic eczema is found on the flexor surfaces (the inner creases of elbows and knees) in adults. In infants, it actually starts on the extensor surfaces like the outer elbows and knees. It is best to have a dermatologist confirm your specific pattern.

I have experienced it mostly on the inner creases of my joints, which are the flexor surfaces. Keeping these joint areas dry and gently stretched with daily yoga has helped me maintain comfort. Please seek clinical guidance for your symptoms.

Mine is on the inner elbows (flexor surfaces) and it used to make me feel so conscious while wearing short sleeves. It is a very common spot, and the constant itching there can be so draining. Please know you are not alone, and getting professional help makes it easier.

Eczema can appear on either surface depending on your age and the specific type of eczema you have. Because other skin conditions like psoriasis usually target the extensor surfaces, you must consult a skin specialist for an accurate diagnosis.
