Is eczema genetic?

My son has started developing dry, itchy patches on his elbows and knees, just like I had when I was a kid. My mother also had similar skin issues. I'm wondering, is eczema genetic? Could it be passed down from me to him?

I can't tell you the medical science behind it, but in my case, both my mother and I have it. It seems to run in families because we both struggle with extremely dry and sensitive skin during winter. It might be worth checking your family history too.

My dermatologist explained that eczema has a very strong genetic link, often connected to a gene mutation that affects how the skin barrier retains moisture. If your parents have asthma, allergies, or eczema, you are much more likely to develop it. A proper clinical assessment is the best way to understand your risk.

My parents gave me their curly hair, their stubbornness, and yes, this wonderful eczema too! It definitely can be genetic. So if your skin is acting up, you can gently blame your DNA and then go buy a good moisturizer.

Yes, genetics play a major role in eczema. Honestly, instead of stressing over family history, just focus on managing the triggers. Keep your bathing time short, use gentle cleansers, and consult a skin specialist to get a quick, effective treatment plan.

Since I have thyroid issues, I know how hereditary autoimmune and skin conditions can be. If you suspect eczema, get it properly diagnosed by a specialist. It is always better to get your regular blood tests and skin checkups done so you can manage these things early.
