Is eczema autoimmune?

My father has some autoimmune conditions, and I've started noticing really persistent, itchy skin patches. I was wondering, is eczema considered an autoimmune disease, or is it something else entirely?

It's an immune-related issue but don't waste time worrying about the exact classification. Focus on practical management: get a good dermatologist, identify your triggers, and keep a consistent moisturizing routine.

My dermatologist explained that while eczema involves an overactive immune response in the skin, it is not strictly classified as a classic autoimmune disease. It's more of a genetic skin barrier issue combined with environmental triggers.

There is a lot of misinformation online calling it a full autoimmune disease. Don't start taking heavy immune-suppressing supplements or random home remedies without verifying with a proper doctor first.

In my experience, whether you call it immune or dry skin, it responds best to gentle care. Don't worry too much about these big medical terms. Just keep your life stress-free and use simple coconut oil.

Eczema has an autoimmune component because the body's immune system overreacts to harmless triggers, but it's not a pure autoimmune disorder. Since it is complex, following a doctor's customized advice is always the safest path.
