Is eczema an allergy?

My daughter's skin gets really irritated, and the doctor said it's eczema. We have a family history of allergies, so I'm wondering if eczema is actually an allergy, or if it's a separate condition altogether?

It is closely related to allergies, but don't just ignore it thinking it will go away. I ignored my dry skin patches assuming it was a temporary allergy, and it got so severely infected that I had to visit the emergency room. Get it checked by a specialist early.

It's not exactly a simple allergy, but allergens can definitely trigger a flare-up. For me, strong perfumes and dust make my eczema act up on my hands. I just stick to hypoallergenic moisturizers and it keeps things quiet.

It acts a lot like an allergy. I tried many home remedies, and what worked best for me was using simple, cold-pressed coconut oil instead of fancy lotions that have too many chemicals. Keep your skin moist and stay away from harsh soaps.

They are connected, but eczema is mainly about sensitive skin. Just try to avoid dust and keep your skin hydrated. Hope you feel better soon.

Eczema is a skin barrier dysfunction, though it is often triggered by environmental allergies. Since the triggers can vary from dust to certain foods, it's best to consult a dermatologist to identify your specific issue rather than taking random allergy pills.
