Is dry skin a sign of diabetes?

My father, who is elderly, has been having very dry and flaky skin all over his body for some time now, despite using lotions. He also has high blood sugar, but isn't diagnosed with diabetes yet. Is very dry skin a potential sign or symptom of diabetes that we should be concerned about?

I got terrified because my shins were extremely dry and itchy, immediately thought it was diabetes. Turns out it was just winter dryness and poor hydration. Use a good moisturizer and relax!

My doctor told me that high blood sugar can cause the body to lose fluids faster, which leads to dry, itchy skin especially on the feet. It is best to get a fasting blood sugar test done.

It can be a sign of diabetes due to poor circulation, but don't guess. Just book an online home blood collection for HbA1c. It is fast, cheap, and gives you a clear answer.

My mother suggests applying pure coconut oil after a bath to lock in moisture. It works wonders for dry skin, but if your sugar levels are running high, proper medical management is required.

Dry skin is multifactorial and can range from cold weather to metabolic issues like diabetes. Consulting a physician and getting a lipid and glucose panel is the best way forward.

I thought my dry skin was due to eating too many spicy foods, but sometimes high sugar is the real culprit. Keep sipping water and get tested if you are eating too many sweets lately!

As a diabetic, I face dry and itchy skin on my legs very often. Controlling sugar intake and keeping skin moisturized is critical to prevent infections. Do check your fasting sugar levels.

Yes, it can be a symptom because high blood sugar dehydrates the skin. Get a sugar test done to be safe.

Very dry skin can also be a major symptom of hypothyroidism. I suggest getting both your thyroid profile and HbA1c checked during your next lab test.

Sardi me sabka skin dry ho jata hai, haan na? But if skin is cracking and not healing quickly, then sugar test karana achha rahega.
