Is dry heaving considered vomiting?

Sometimes I feel nauseous but nothing comes out, just that retching feeling. My friend calls it dry heaving. Is dry heaving the same as vomiting, or is it a different thing altogether? I'm trying to understand if it's as serious as actual vomiting.

Dry heaving is basically when your body tries to vomit but nothing comes out. My kid gets this during travel sickness. It is very exhausting, so keep them hydrated.

It is not exactly vomiting because no stomach content comes out, but it uses the same muscles. Rest well and sip some warm water.

It is muscle-level retching. Make sure to track your water intake on your health app because dehydration can make dry heaving feel much worse.

It is like the trailer of vomiting but the actual movie doesn't start! Usually happens when I eat too much spicy street food late at night on an empty stomach.

Technically it is just the motion of vomiting without actual throw up. I get so anxious when it happens to me because it feels much more painful. Hope you are okay.
