Is diabetes mellitus type 2 an autoimmune disease?

Someone mentioned that type 2 diabetes is an autoimmune condition, but I always thought that was type 1. Is diabetes mellitus type 2 an autoimmune disease?

I totally get why you'd ask, it's quite confusing! While Type 1 diabetes is definitely an autoimmune disease, Type 2 generally isn't considered one in the same way. It's more linked to insulin resistance and lifestyle, though some autoimmune factors might play a very small part for some people. Best to confirm with a doctor.

Namaste. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks itself. But for Type 2, from my understanding and discussions with practitioners, it's primarily about lifestyle and the body's response to insulin, not autoimmune. Though, keeping your body's systems balanced through yoga and pranayama can always help general health.

Type 1 diabetes is autoimmune, where the body's own system attacks itself. But Type 2 is mostly related to how the body uses insulin, often due to lifestyle. So no, Type 2 is not typically seen as an autoimmune disease. Keep a peaceful mind and take care of your body.

No, generally Type 2 diabetes mellitus is not classified as an autoimmune disease. Type 1 is autoimmune. Type 2 is more about insulin resistance and insufficient insulin production, often linked to lifestyle. Important distinction for treatment. Consult a specialist for diagnosis.

Beta, Type 1 is the one where the body fights itself, an autoimmune problem. But Type 2, which is more common in older people like me, is mostly about how we live and what we eat, how our body uses the sugar. So no, Type 2 is not truly autoimmune. Don't worry too much, just live well.

Definitely not. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition. Type 2 diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency, often due to genetic and lifestyle factors, not an autoimmune attack on the pancreas. Please consult a qualified doctor for accurate medical information, don't rely on online forums for such crucial distinctions.
