Is dermatitis the same as eczema?

My skin has been very itchy and red lately, especially on my arms. The chemist said it could be dermatitis, but my mother has eczema. Are dermatitis and eczema the same thing?

Don't trust everything you read online for medical conditions. While they are related, they're not exactly the same. Dermatitis is a general term for skin inflammation, and eczema is a type of dermatitis. Always get a proper diagnosis from a dermatologist, don't self-treat or rely on internet remedies.

Oh, another one of those medical terms that sound similar but aren't quite, right? Like how my morning walk and a marathon are both 'walking.' Generally, dermatitis is the big umbrella for skin inflammation, and eczema is a common type under it. My skin also gets weird sometimes, I tell you!

Honestly, sometimes I feel like my skin has its own mind, especially when I'm sleep-deprived! But no, they're not exactly the same. Dermatitis is a general term for skin irritation, and eczema is a specific kind of dermatitis. It's like 'fruit' and 'apple' – all apples are fruit, but not all fruit are apples. Hope that makes sense even to my sleepy brain!

Not exactly the same, but they're related! 😊 Dermatitis is like the big family name for skin irritation, and eczema is one specific, common member of that family. So, all eczema is dermatitis, but not all dermatitis is eczema! Hope that helps! ✨

I've had skin issues myself, and what I understood from my doctor is that dermatitis is a general term for skin inflammation. Eczema is one specific type of dermatitis, but there are others too. I can only share my experience, but for a proper understanding, a doctor's consultation is best.

My dear, I've seen many skin issues in my lifetime. While they seem similar, dermatitis is a broad term for any skin inflammation, and eczema is a specific, often chronic, type of dermatitis. So, they are related, but not identical. Don't worry too much, many people have these skin conditions, just see a good doctor.

From a practical standpoint, no, they're not identical. Dermatitis is a general term indicating skin inflammation, which can have many causes (contact, allergic, etc.). Eczema is a specific, chronic form of dermatitis, often with a genetic component. So, all eczema is dermatitis, but not all dermatitis is eczema. A dermatologist can differentiate and recommend suitable treatment.
