Is dementia mental health?

My elderly aunt is struggling with memory loss and we're exploring all possibilities. We're trying to figure out what kind of medical professional to consult. Is dementia considered part of mental health?

My doctor explained that dementia is a neurological condition, not a mental health disorder in the way depression or anxiety are classified. It involves a decline in cognitive function affecting daily life. While it impacts mental abilities, it's more about physical changes in the brain cells. It's a complex brain disease.

Yaar, actually, it's a bit tricky. Dementia isn't exactly a mental health illness like depression, it's more like a brain disease that affects memory and thinking. Like, the brain cells get damaged. So it has mental symptoms but the root cause is physical in the brain, you know?

Actually, dementia is considered a neurodegenerative disease affecting brain function, not just a mental health issue. It's more about how the brain physically changes. Maintaining a healthy diet, especially one rich in plant-based foods and antioxidants, can support overall brain health though, which is always a good thing.

Beti, dementia is when the mind forgets things, it's a problem with the brain working properly. It's not like when someone feels sad or worried. It's a disease that makes memory weak. We should always take good care of our elders and be patient with them.

Haha, if forgetting where I left my keys means dementia, then half of us are probably in trouble! But seriously, it's more of a physical brain condition that affects memory, not really like feeling sad or anxious. Though, I guess it can definitely make someone feel anxious. It's like your brain's filing cabinet getting a bit rusty.
