Is dementia a mental health disorder?

My uncle was recently diagnosed with dementia, and my family is very concerned. We want to learn more about it. Is dementia officially considered a mental health disorder, or is it something else completely?

It's more a neurological disorder than a mental health disorder. It involves physical changes in the brain that affect memory and thinking. If there are concerns about dementia, always get a thorough check-up with a neurologist for a proper diagnosis.

My generation has seen a lot, beta. Dementia is when the brain itself starts to forget things and changes, it's not just a sadness or worry like some mental health issues. It's more of a disease of the brain itself. It's important to understand this distinction, so the right doctor can help.

While dementia profoundly impacts cognitive and psychological well-being, it's technically classified as a neurodegenerative disease rather than a primary mental health disorder. It stems from physical changes or damage to the brain. For clarity and proper guidance, always consult a medical professional like a neurologist.

My neighbour's mother had dementia, and they explained it's more about the brain's physical condition deteriorating, not just a mental health problem. Like a car engine wearing out, not just a driver having bad mood. So, you need a doctor who specializes in brain, like a neurologist. We always trust what doctors say for these complex things.
