Is demand ischemia a heart attack?

My father recently had some chest pain and the doctor mentioned 'demand ischemia'. I'm trying to understand what that means. Is demand ischemia the same as having a heart attack, or is it something different?

My doctor explained this clearly to me because I have high BP. Demand ischemia means your heart is working harder than it can, not that there's a blockage causing a heart attack. However, it's a critical sign that your heart is under stress and needs attention. It's a huge red flag to manage your lifestyle, blood pressure, and cholesterol, and have regular check-ups.

I totally get why you'd be concerned and asking this. Heart-related terms can be really scary and confusing. Demand ischemia is when your heart needs more oxygen than it's getting, but it's *not* the same as a full-blown heart attack (myocardial infarction). It's a warning sign, though, so please see a cardiologist immediately if you suspect it.

Nah, not the same thing, dude. Demand ischemia means your heart is like, 'I need more oxygen!' but it's not actually damaged like in a heart attack. It's more of a sign that something's off and needs checking. Like your laptop asking for charger, not dying yet, but will soon if not charged, you know?

Beta, when I was younger, I used to worry about every ache. Demand ischemia is not a heart attack, but it is a warning from your body that your heart is struggling. It means you must go to the doctor immediately. Do not ignore chest pain or discomfort. Better to be safe than sorry, always.

Oh god, this is one of those medical terms that sends my anxiety through the roof! It's so easy to Google something and then convince yourself of the worst. From what I recall reading (and panicking over), it's not a heart attack itself, but it means your heart isn't getting enough supply for its demand. Definitely needs immediate medical review, so don't delay, okay?

No, it's not a heart attack. A heart attack is when blood flow is blocked and part of the heart muscle dies. Demand ischemia means the heart isn't getting enough blood for the work it's doing. It's serious and needs a doctor to figure out why, but it's not the same damage as a heart attack. Don't panic, but do get it checked.
