Is cradle cap dandruff?

My baby, just 3 months old, has this flaky, yellowish stuff on his scalp. My mother-in-law says it’s just like dandruff. Is cradle cap the same thing as dandruff, or is it something different for babies?

No, it is not exactly the same as adult dandruff, even though it looks like flakes. It is very common in babies and usually clears up on its own, so please don't worry.

Haan, skin dry type ho jaati hai baby ki, but normal dandruff nahi hai ye. Just light coconut oil lagao soft comb ke saath, automatically soft hokar nikal jayega na.

In our times, we saw this in almost every infant. It is just excess oil production on the baby's scalp, not adult dandruff. A gentle wash with a damp cloth after oiling is more than enough to clear it.

I don't have expert knowledge, but from what other moms in my support group say, it's a temporary baby skin issue and not normal dandruff. It is always safest to show it to a pediatrician during your next visit.

Don't worry, it's not dandruff at all! It looks a bit scary but it doesn't even itch or bother the baby. A little gentle baby oil massage works like magic!

My nephew had this last month and my sister got super freaked out thinking it's bad dandruff. The doctor said it's just harmless cradle cap and told us to use a mild baby shampoo. It went away in a week.

It is basically infantile seborrheic dermatitis, not standard dandruff. Just like how we keep our skin hydrated after workouts, baby skin also needs gentle moisture balance. Keep it clean and it resolves.
