Is coleslaw good for type 2 diabetes?

My husband has type 2 diabetes, and we are always looking for healthy food options. We sometimes eat coleslaw with our meals. I wanted to know if coleslaw is a good choice for someone with type 2 diabetes, or if we should avoid it.

I have type 2 diabetes and noticed that eating outside coleslaw always spiked my fasting sugar the next morning. Now I only eat homemade cabbage salad with apple cider vinegar and a touch of olive oil, which suits my body much better.

I was researching diabetic-friendly sides for my aunt and found out that cabbage itself is super healthy. But the commercial mayo dressing has a lot of hidden sugar and bad fats, which can affect insulin sensitivity. Replacing mayo with hung curd seems to be the best trick.

Eating simple, pure foods keeps both the mind and body healthy. Cabbage is a beautiful gift of nature, but try to avoid the artificial heavy sauces they put in it. Keep your food natural, stay positive, and your health will surely shine.

Man, coleslaw from fast food joints is delicious but it is basically sugar syrup mixed with mayo. If you have type 2 diabetes and have those cravings, try making a tangy mustard-based version at home. You get the crunch without the sugar spike!

Honestly, I barely have energy to make coffee, let alone calculate glycemic index of cabbage. Just don't eat those ready-made coleslaw tubs from the supermarket, they are loaded with sugar to keep them fresh. Stick to fresh raw veggies.

In our time, we just ate raw patta gobhi with lemon and salt, and it kept our sugars perfectly fine. This modern western coleslaw with heavy cream is not meant for Indian type 2 diabetic bodies. Go back to simple salads, beta, it works best.

Cabbage is great for type 2, but commercial coleslaw dressing has too much sugar. Always opt for oil and vinegar dressing instead.

My dad has type 2 and he loves coleslaw, but we had to ban the restaurant ones. I make it for him now with grated cabbage, carrots, and a light olive oil-lemon dressing. His post-meal sugar doesn't jump at all.

I learned the hard way that even 'healthy looking salads' can raise your HbA1c if they contain heavy dressings. I had kidney complications due to uncontrolled type 2 diabetes, so I am very cautious now. Please verify with your doctor or clinical nutritionist before eating these dishes.

If you want to keep your insulin levels stable, focus on high fiber and healthy fats. Standard coleslaw is low in protein and high in empty fat from mayo. Pair raw cabbage with grilled paneer or chicken instead for a balanced, low-carb meal.

When I was first diagnosed with type 2, I panicked and thought I couldn't eat any salads with dressing ever again. But my educator showed me how to make low-fat dressings at home. You can still enjoy your coleslaw, just control what goes into the dressing.

I get so anxious reading nutrition labels because sugar is hidden under so many names like corn syrup. If you are making coleslaw, maybe just use plain yogurt and black pepper so you know exactly what is going into your body? Stay safe and monitor your levels.
