Is cod liver oil the same as omega 3?

I'm trying to decide between buying cod liver oil or just a regular omega-3 supplement. Are they essentially the same thing, or are there significant differences in what they offer? Confused about which one to pick.

They are actually not the same. Omega-3 is a healthy fat found in many foods, while cod liver oil is a specific oil from fish that contains omega-3 along with vitamins A and D. I hope this helps you understand it easily.

I used to panic so much thinking I bought the wrong supplement because the labels are so confusing! But don't worry, it's very simple. Cod liver oil just has extra vitamins in it, while regular omega-3 is just the pure oil. You are totally fine, no need to stress.

To save you some research time: no, they aren't identical. Cod liver oil gives you Omega-3 plus vitamins A and D, whereas basic Omega-3 supplements only have the fatty acids. Just ask your doctor which one your body actually lacks to avoid buying the wrong thing.

With PCOS, we have to be so careful with vitamins since our hormones are already sensitive. Cod liver oil has heavy doses of Vitamin A, while standard omega-3 doesn't. It's best to check with your gynecologist to see which one is safer for your specific hormonal profile.

They are different, and cod liver oil is often pricier because of the added vitamins. Before spending money on expensive fish oil capsules, I'd suggest getting a basic vitamin panel test done. That way, you only buy the exact supplement you actually need without wasting cash.
