Is coconut oil good for fatty liver?

I recently got diagnosed with fatty liver, and my doctor told me to change my cooking oil. I usually use coconut oil at home. I wanted to know, is coconut oil good for fatty liver, or should I switch to something else?

Hi there! Coconut oil has some good fats called MCTs, but since it is still a saturated fat, it's best not to take it in large amounts if you have fatty liver. Focus on a balanced diet with lots of green veggies instead!

I ignored my mild fatty liver reports and kept eating rich foods cooked in heavy oils, thinking natural oils wouldn't hurt. It slowly progressed to a worse stage. Please don't experiment with coconut oil; get a proper ultrasound and follow your doctor's treatment.

I was diagnosed with grade 1 fatty liver and started using coconut oil for cooking. But my cholesterol levels shot up in my next blood test. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried it might be doing more harm than good.

Many women with PCOS also suffer from fatty liver, so I understand your concern. While some online articles say coconut oil is good, it is very high in saturated fats which can strain your liver. I try to stick to very minimal olive oil or mustard oil on my doctor's advice.

My teenage son has a fatty liver due to insulin resistance, and our doctor strictly told us to reduce all saturated fats, including coconut oil and ghee. We now cook his meals in very small amounts of mustard oil. Please focus on reducing overall fat intake for your liver.

In our younger days we used coconut oil for everything, but our lifestyle was very active. For fatty liver today, you should keep oils very minimal. Simple home remedies like warm water with lemon and cutting down on sugar and heavy fried food will help your liver heal.

Coconut oil is quite expensive compared to regular oils, and honestly, it won't magically cure fatty liver. Save that money for your liver function tests (LFT) and regular doctor consultations. Just cook with very little local oil and walk daily—it's cheap and highly effective.
