Is chocolate bad for kidney stones?

I've had kidney stones before, and my doctor gave me a list of foods to be careful with. I really enjoy dark chocolate. Is chocolate bad for kidney stones, or can I have it in moderation?

If you are prone to calcium oxalate kidney stones, you really need to limit chocolate because it is extremely high in oxalates. I had to cut down my late-night chocolate habits drastically after my last ultrasound. Drink lots of water throughout the day to flush things out.

This is the worst news for a chocoholic like me! Since cocoa has high oxalates, eating too much of it can unfortunately help those nasty stones grow. I try to balance my occasional cravings by drinking a glass of water or eating some calcium-rich food alongside it.

In our family, we believe in drinking fresh coconut water and barley water to keep the kidneys clean. Avoid heavy foods like chocolates and packed sweets if you already have stone pain. Consult your doctor for proper treatment rather than ignoring the discomfort.

My brother was recently diagnosed with a small kidney stone and he is very fond of dark chocolate. Does anyone know if milk chocolate is safer than dark chocolate, or should he avoid both of them completely? Any guidance would be really helpful.

My roommate got kidney stones last semester during exams because he was living on energy drinks and chocolates. The doctor literally told him to stay away from chocolates because of the oxalates. Stay hydrated guys, kidney pain is no joke.
