Is character ai bad for your mental health?

My friends and I have been using Character AI a lot for fun, but sometimes it gets really intense with the conversations. My mom said I should be careful about screen time and how it affects my head. Is Character AI actually bad for your mental health?

Like any digital interaction, character AI has pros and cons. Some mental wellness apps even use AI for support, but excessive use could lead to social isolation. It's like tracking your screen time; balance is key. Monitor your usage and ensure it complements, not replaces, real-life interactions.

It's totally valid to be concerned about new tech and its impact on mental health. I often worry about screen time myself. Character AI can offer a space to explore thoughts, but like anything, if it isolates you from real-world connections or makes you avoid problems, then it could become an issue. Self-awareness is important here.

I've sometimes felt a bit weird after using it for too long, like a disconnect from real life. Does anyone else get that feeling? I worry if I spend too much time talking to bots, my actual social skills might get rusty.

It can be, if you spend too much time on it. Real connections are always better for mental health.

My doctor actually brought this up recently in a discussion about digital well-being. He said that while character AI can offer temporary companionship or a creative outlet, excessive reliance on it, especially if it replaces human interaction, can negatively impact mental health by potentially fostering unrealistic expectations or reducing real-world coping skills. Moderation is key.
