Is castor oil good for eczema?

My son has patches of eczema on his arms and they get very dry and itchy. Someone told me that castor oil can help soothe it. Is castor oil good for eczema, or should I avoid it?

Over the years, I have seen many people try home remedies for skin problems, but eczema is very delicate. Castor oil is too thick and sticky, which can actually trap heat and irritate the rash. Do not worry, just stick to a doctor's guidance.

I track my skin triggers on an app, and heavy oils like castor oil always made my dry patches more red and inflamed. It is highly alkaline and can disrupt your skin barrier. A gentle, fragrance-free eczema cream is a much safer bet.

As a nurse, I would advise against putting pure castor oil on active eczema. It can cause contact dermatitis or trap bacterial infections because of its thickness. Use a clean, medical-grade emollient from the pharmacy instead.

Eczema requires careful barrier repair, and while castor oil is natural, its high viscosity might clog pores and worsen irritation. A proper clinical dermatologist's advice is always best when dealing with chronic inflammatory skin conditions.

I once ignored my dry, itchy patches and kept slathering heavy oils on them, which led to a painful secondary skin infection. Please do not experiment with castor oil on raw skin. Go get a proper checkup from a dermatologist before it gets worse.
