Is cardiac arrest the same thing as a heart attack?

During a family discussion about heart health, the terms 'cardiac arrest' and 'heart attack' came up. I was under the impression they were interchangeable. Is cardiac arrest the same thing as a heart attack, or do they refer to different issues with the heart?

Listen, don't stress too much reading all this online, but they are actually different things. Heart attack is when blood flow to the heart gets blocked, and cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly stops pumping completely. Just take care of your health, eat properly, and stay chilled, okay?

They are totally different, beta. One is a blood blockage and the other is a sudden electrical failure of the heart. For general gas or mild chest discomfort, I used to try ajwain water, but if there is heavy sweating or left arm pain, never wait at home. Take the person to a proper doctor immediately.

Both are serious, but they are different. We must keep some basic emergency preparations at home, like keeping a card with hospital contact numbers near the landline or on the fridge. Also, always save the nearest ICU hospital number on speed dial. Prevention is good, but preparation is a must.

No, they are distinct. Heart attack is a circulation issue, whereas cardiac arrest is an electrical failure where the person loses consciousness instantly. If you see someone collapse, call for an ambulance and start chest compressions. Learning CPR is very simple and it actually saves lives, so please look it up.

I had a mild heart attack just six months ago and my cardiologist explained this clearly. My attack was due to a blocked artery, but cardiac arrest is when the heartbeat stops completely. I was lucky I got to the hospital in under an hour. Please don't ignore even minor chest burning, get an ECG done.
